Edith "Marion" Poast of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 at the age of 101 years. Edith (Marion) Poast was born on April 3, 1918 in the RM of Brenda, MB (Napinka Area). And yes, 101 years old!
Her dad, William, nicknamed her “Tweenie”. At a young age, Marion left Dauphin for the Big City of Winnipeg and started working at Eaton’s Downtown. Marion never married.
From Winnipeg, Marion ventured off to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she worked as executive assistant to the Editor of the Minneapolis Star newspaper.
When she returned to Winnipeg where she started a career at the Health Science Hospital in the Administration of Nursing. Marion retired in 1983 and resided at Strathcona House until the spring of 2019. After a short stay in the hospital, Marion spent the rest of her life at Charleswood Personal Care Home.
Marion loved to travel and visited countries such as Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Germany, Holland and other various countries in Europe. She also travelled to many cities in the USA and Canada. Two places Marion wanted to visit was Hawaii and Israel, and her health prevented this.
Marion’s hobbies, besides travelling, included painting and cross stitching. Marion was dedicated to God and enjoyed going to Church at Elim Chapel in Winnipeg. She made a lot of long-lasting friendships through Church.
Marion was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Lloyd, Jim and Frank; sisters, Evelyn and Elma.
She is survived by her nephews, Bill Poast and family, Gordon Coulthard and family; sister-in-law, Lois Poast; nephew, Ken Poast and family; nieces, Evelyn Landsborough and family, Karen Poast and family, Patricia Poast and family, Maureen Green and family, Mavis Stokotelny and family, Heather Kindret and family.
Marion out lived all of her siblings and all of her friends and peacefully passed away on October 21, 2019.
A Funeral Service was held for Marion on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 1:30 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Rev. Loralyn Lind officiating.
Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery, Dauphin, MB .
