David Fisher Obituary

David George Fisher, age 80 years of Grandview, MB left us peacefully on May 27, 2019.
Dave was born in Grandview on June 11, 1938 to Richard and Grace Fisher (nee Carnochan), joining brother Edward and later welcoming little sister Ardith.
Dad was born, raised and lived out his life on the farm in Grandview. He attended Halton school and completed his Grade 8 education and turned to what he loved best, farming.
In his early years he went to Winnipeg and completed basic army training and drove transport truck in the city but ultimately returned to Grandview. Dad met and married Bonnie Plummer in 1964 and they worked together to raise two children, Lareina and Jerret.
He worked various jobs over the years with many life long friends. Construction with Earl Shewfelt, John Yarush, Farming with Ken Stevens, Doug Cowling, and Steve Novalkowski, Lumbermills in the Duck Mountains and cutting wood in the bush with Doug Harris to name a few.  For many years one of Dad's winter jobs was building shop cupboards with long time friend Roy Goossen. Word of mouth spread and I am sure there are thousands of feet of cupboards in shops and garages across the country from Roy and Dave.
One night while attending a dance at Sugar Loaf with a friend and Auntie Ardie, Dad was pulled back stage at the age of 17 and convinced to play Santa for the evening. That began a life long career as Santa for many friends and family. From the crew at Gateways and Home Hardware to sneaking into driveways like White's to surprise many kids with an unexpected visit, he loved it all.
Dad was almost always mischievous. He liked to pull pranks or jokes, was quick to come up with a smart comment and loved to tease friends and family. He could remember everyone, their family, nicknames and various dates in a heartbeat. Even in later years as folks came in the door of the care home he would often call out to them by name. Jerret inherited his love of children and Dad always enjoyed all the visits of school kids to the care home.
He preferred to be outside and liked animals. An avid hunter early on and a bit of fishing in later years at Lake of the Prairies. The farm and surrounding country were where he always wanted to be. He only flew once on a trip and never again. Long, slow drives checking crops or the inevitable tour to the Pleasant Valley Dam were always a must when ever you were home to visit.
He was always happiest in his community, visiting with folks, teaching our cousins how to farm, or working with friends to get the hall ready for the annual Pleasant Valley picnic. Many fond memories for all of us will have him live on in our hearts.
He is survived by his daughter Lareina Jacques and partner Lyle Conway of Eckville, AB, son Jerret Fisher and wife Jaime of Barrhead, AB. Grandchildren Kelsey Jacques and partner Matthew Waller of Winnipeg, MB, Haeley Jacques and partner Brandon Courts of Edmonton, AB, Grace and Cohen Fisher of Barrhead, AB, Joel, Amber, Gabriel Conway of Eckville, AB, Abbygail and Antonio Schmidt of Falun, AB.  Sister in Law Heather Fisher of Gladstone, AB and many loved nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by parents Dick and Grace, brother Eddie and sister Ardie and infant brother.
Should friends so desire memorial contributions in memory of Dave may be made to Grandview Gateways or Grandview Personal Care Home.
