Daniel Coles Obituary

Daniel (Dan) Arthur Coles
July 14, 1926 - July 12, 2019
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of a special Uncle on the night of July 12, 2019 at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose du Lac with family by his side.
Dan was born in the Spruce Creek District west of Dauphin and moved with his parents and siblings to a farm in the RM of Ochre River. He later moved to the Village of Ochre River where he resided until 2009 at which time he moved to Ste. Rose. In the summer of 2015 he moved to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home.
Dan worked on road construction with Royal Paving and was a truck driver for Eldon Cleave of Ochre River and held farm labour jobs including working for Tom Smart of Ochre River.
He loved his horses and was known to enjoy many trail rides and pokeramas. He frequented horse sales and auction sales where he socialized with friends. He rarely missed the summer fairs, rodeos and horse races.
In winter months he enjoyed snowmobiling, Pokeramas, and trail rides. He enjoyed rides around the park trails with brother Fred, nephew Bob and Grant. He also enjoyed curling  at the Ochre River and Makinak curling clubs and was known to take in bonspiels as well. In later years, he enjoyed watching curling at the rinks as well as on television.
Dan also enjoyed the fall suppers and attended those events from Ochre River, Laurier,Ste. Rose, Eddystone to Grandview, Gilbert Plains and many others where he appreciated the meals and oh yes, the socializing.
He also very much enjoyed the old time dances and music. Yes, he liked to dance as well.
Dan was know for his distinctive laugh alerting friends to his presence in a crowd.
He very much enjoyed visiting with friends and family at the local coffee shops and the Bakery.
Dan is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins including nieces, Bernice Robertson (Allen) and family, Jeannette Stewart (Morton) and family, Darlene Palmer Coles and husband, nephews Mervin Morton and family, Barry Morton and family, Bob  Coles and family and many cousins including Margaret Howson and family and Jim Coles and family.
Dan was predeceased by his parents, Annie and Alfred Coles, his brother Fred and sister-in-law Lillian, nephew Keith Coles and sisters Dorthy Allen and brother-in-law Bernard and Violet Morton and brother-in-law Ed and several aunts and uncles.
In keeping with Dan’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Dan to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care home Activities Department or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful nursing and health care aide staff, kitchen & dining staff, laundry, housekeeping and maintenance staff as well as the activities department and spiritual care department at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home and Dr. Gudmundson and Dr.  O’Hagan. A special thank you to Marlene.
