Carol Allard Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Carol Elaine Allard announce her passing on January 9, 2019 at her home in Onanole, MB.
Carol was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba on April 5th, 1956 to parents, Gestur Paulson and Margaret Paulson (Shewfelt).  She has two brothers, Irvin Paulson and David Paulson.
She spent her childhood and adolescence in Swan River, MB, where she graduated from high school.
She went on to graduate from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Education.

Carol was a remarkable woman on many levels.  She had a strong curiosity, passion for details, and interest in learning, questioning, researching, and understanding all the facts.  She loved to document and share her knowledge with others, and was known to enjoy a good debate!  But, no matter where you stood, her infectious smile, understanding, and genuine care and interest in the lives of others always left her friends and family feeling welcome and at ease.  Carol was a strong woman.  Despite the adversity that she faced, she maintained an optimism and gratitude for life, along with a sharp wit and great sense of humour (and a healthy dose of sarcasm, which she insisted is the highest form of humour).  She was a true teacher at heart in all aspects of life, from her work to her family life.

Some of the things that Carol will be remembered for are: Art, creativity, and craftiness;
Love of the outdoors and active life of sailing, skiing, and more, which she shared with her husband, George; Being an outstanding mother and grandmother; Commitment to the environment;
Practical and frugal, yet somewhat epicurean, nature; Contributions to La Leche League;
Love of gardening and knowledge of plants and wildlife; Love of reading and membership in book club; Desire to help others; Proficiency in standing up for and voicing what she believed, at times through political letters;  Impeccable style, due in part to her custom-made (by her friends) clothing and impressive scarf collection.
Carol married George Allard on August 19th, 1978. Together they raised their children, Naomi Allard (and Trevor McDonald), Ben Allard (and Amanda Allard), Matt Allard (and Shannon Wright), Adriana Allard, and cherished their grandchildren: Ryan Allard, Lily Allard, Annabelle McDonald.

A Private family memorial service in celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date.

Carol will be missed dearly and remembered fondly by those that knew her.  As she said herself, she will live on through the memories of others.  She made an impact on the lives of many - even if just leaving them with a smile on their face - and she will also live on through the knowledge, skills, and qualities that she has passed on to her family and friends.  Carol promoted a life of caring, learning, and sharing.  She expressed gratitude for her journey in life, and at the heart of it, what she appreciated most was simple: good food, conversation, and most importantly all of the friendship, of which her life was rich.
Any donations can be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada or the ALS Society of Canada.
We would like to thank all of Carol’s friends, including her amazing care workers, for all of the love and support received over the years.
