Barbara Matters Obituary

Barbara Lynne Matters of Ste Rose du Lac passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the age of 72 years.
Barbara was born on November 14th, 1946 in Carmen, MB to parents Andrew and Mabel(Purse) Dickey. Barb and her siblings Myrna, Debbie, Delmer, Chet and Shirley were raised in Rosebank, MB.  She attended grade school in Rosebank and then continued her education at Red River College graduating with her Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma. Barb started her nursing career in Portage la Prairie and then the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home Ste. Rose du Lac from 1983-2003.  Barb retired in 2003 and then returned from 2012-2014 until her health declined.  Barb kept many close friendships from her years at work.  She was well known for her years of hard work, her work ethic and her compassionate care of the residents.
Barb loved farming. Barb's source of pride was raising her goats, donkeys and sheep.  She loved being outdoors fussing with her flowers and working in her yard. She loved her dogs. Barb dearly missed her Boston Terriers Pete and Freida when they passed.  Her new addition Daisy never left her side. Barb was an avid decorator.  She loved painting and decorating her home.  Barb was incredibly proud of her home and took great pride in it. She loved her sports on TV, rarely missed a  Winnipeg Jets game or curling event. Her laugh was truly one of a kind.
Barb leaves to mourn and cherish many fond memories;   her loving husband and best friend Marvin Matters, her two children Lynn Jackson and Michael McDonald,  her step children Gwen and Steven Zalizniak and her step children with Marvin;  Audrey Labelle (Ron Hughes), Bev Matters, Murray (Josee) Matters and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barb met and married Marvin Matters in 1997.  They farmed together at Turtle River and  moved to Ste. Rose du Lac in 2012 for health reasons.  They worked hard and enjoyed every one of life's adventures together. Barb loved Marvin and took care of him like gold. She will be forever missed and always in our hearts.
