Arthur Frykas Obituary

Arthur Myroslaw Frykas of Dauphin, MB passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the age of 96 years.
Dad was born on the Syrnyk family farm in Mink Creek on May 17, 1923.  He was the third of four boys born to Harry & Mary Frykas (Syrnyk). Dad grew up on the family farm S.E. of Gilbert Plains and attended Markham School graduating from Grade 8.  He worked on the farm, but in the winter of 1946/1947 decided to go to Prince George where he worked for Strom Lumber Co. felling trees with a power saw that required a harness and another man. In the spring he stopped at Hines Creek and helped Uncle Sam Syrnyk put in the crop and returned home in time for brother Leonard’s wedding.
When his parents decided to retire from the farm and move to Dauphin in 1950, he and his brother Leonard, operated Frykas Bros. farm.
It was at this time he took notice in Aunt Leona’s pretty younger sister Mary who was coming out and soon the farm truck was making trips to Sifton. In 1954 Mom and Dad married and soon their family began with Brian and Danny. After an attempt to buy a neighboring farm fell through, Dad decided to leave farming and move to Dauphin in 1960. Here the family grew with Zenon, Terry, and (to Mom’s great delight) Donna Marie.
Dad worked construction building the Ethelbert, Rivers, Minnedosa, and Winnipegosis schools. He saw the Winnipegosis school only 2 months ago. He also worked at Shilo and in building the Brandon Simplot fertilizer plant. In May of 1970 he started working for the Town of Dauphin public works Department where he worked until his retirement in May 1988.  Sadly Mom would pass away in November of that year. Dad enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting and gardening.  After taking a small engine course Dad found his true passion fixing anything and everything that other people had given up on.
Although not having thrown a curling stone in his life, he loved watching - especially women’s curling as he was amazed at their shot-making ability.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Mary, parents Harry and Mary Frykas, in-laws Mike and Pauline Trush, brothers Paul and Leonard, brothers-in-law Bill Puchailo, Walter Shumka, Harry Bobroski,  Marvin, Ernie, and Donnie Trush, and sisters-in-law Marg, Adele, Marcela, and Leona Frykas, and by Hazel Puchailo and Emily Shumka.
He is survived by family Brian and Sally, Danny and Verna, Zenon, Terry, and Donna and Glenn Marchak. Grandchildren include Tim and Amy, Jennifer, Clinton and Brianne, Tara Lynn and Devin, Kiera, Darterrian, and Chelsea. His great-grandchildren consist that of Mischa, Lev, and Zhanna. He is also survived by Victor Frykas, Ted and Alice Trush, Alma Trush, Evelyn Trush, Isabel Bobroski, Mike and Phyllis Pizunski, and many nieces and nephews.
Dad’s memory was remarkable, but his heart could go no further.
