Born, November 13, 1955 in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, Steve suddenly passed away at his home on January 25, 2012 at the age of 56 years.
Leaving behind to mourn are his wife Madeline Catcheway; son Lyle (Eugenia); daughters Kristen and Laura (Sheldon); Baby Vital who he raised as his own since Vital was 9 months old; step-daughters Tiffany Catcheway and Michelle Houle; his close friend Barry (Marceline) McDonald; his mother Marie McDonald; step-father Louie McKay; brothers Kenneth, Ernest (Maxine) and Ralph (Suzie); sisters Susan, Annette (William) and Karen (Chester). There are also, 15 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve was predeceased by his father George McDonald; brother Mark McDonald; grandparents John and Martha McDonald, Dave and Maggie McDonald.
Steve had lived in Crane River all his life. He loved to play Bingo and VLTs. Steve was outgoing, and enjoyed visiting his family and friends. In his younger years Steve had a passion for his Dog Team. He loved to play fastball with his peers. He was also a bingo caller for fundraising events. He adored his grandchildren and showed his love in many ways. Even though he was disabled, Steve was still capable of work, tilling gardens for the people in his community.
Steve will be sadly missed, with cherished fond memories, and his good sense of humor.
Traditional Wake and Prayer Service began on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at 5:00 p.m., from the JAR Centre in O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation, Manitoba. Funeral Mass celebrated by Fr. Leo Fernandes was held on Monday, January 30, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. also from the JAR Centre. Interment followed in the Crane River Reserve Cemetery. Pallbearers were Delbert McKay, Morris McKay, David Catcheway, Kenneth McDonald, Michael Dorion and Ernest McDonald.
The family would like to thank all the people in the surrounding communities for all their prayers and support.
