HAWRYLYSHEN

Suddenly on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the age of 73 years, Maurice Hawrylyshen passed away with his wife, Beverley Wozny, at his side.

He was born in Gilbert Plains on August 9, 1938, the eighth child of Micheal and Anastasia Hawrylyshen (nee Marak) Hawrylyshen.

He is survived by his wife, Beverley Wozny; his daughters, Kelly Berg, Lisa (Ken Sitko), Angela (Joey) Bohun; son, Randy (Catherine) Hawrylyshen; step-children, Kimberly (Jeff) Chetyrbok and Cory (Stacey) Wozny.  Grand-children Mindy (Vance), Amanda, Michael (Kayla); Derek (Tara); Travis, Collin and Lee; and Jacqueline and great-grandchildren Cameron, Payton, and Imogen; Emma; Tanner; Carson and Tori; and Alexander, Sean and Eilis.  He is also survived by brothers Ernie (Helen) and Alvin; sisters Victoria Balyk and Shirley (Matt) Chychowski and brother-in-law Nick Gashyna as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Micheal and Anastasia Hawrylyshen; his brothers Wasyl (Bill) and Dmytro (Matt); sisters Elsie Proskin and Anne Gashyna; brother-in-law Steve Balyk; sisters-in-law Sallee Hawrylyshen and Zanovia Hawrylyshen; son-in-law Gordon Berg; and great-grandchild, Maddy.

He was raised on the family farm in Gilbert Plains, and continued farming until 1985.  He moved to Dauphin and worked for a time in construction and later as a health care aide until his retirement in September 2003.  He and Bev enjoyed visiting friends and family and travelling to places like Mexico, Hawaii, Prince Edward Island, and Florida and spending many days and nights at The Lake of the Prairies with good friend’s playing cards and fishing.

Memorial service was held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the Msgr. G. Oucharyk Auditorium at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin, with Brenda Pockett officiating.  Interment will follow in the Glen Eden Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba at a later date.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Maurice may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

Arrangements were entrusted to Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services with funeral homes in Dauphin, Roblin and Ste. Rose du Lac.

    I was fortunate to spend time with my godfather, Maurice about 2 years ago, so saddened to hear he is no longer with us, he was very special to me, my heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all those who loved him.

    Mo(I called him) was our lake neighbour and our friend. What was his was everyone’s. We will miss his big grin, his constant banging and building and his complaining about the dust.
