October 28, 1948 – February 10, 2012
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Linda Marie Lounsbury (nee Boerchers) on Friday, February 10th, 2012 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre, at the age of 63, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bruce of 43 years, her daughters Shelley and Shawna (John) and grandchildren Taylor, Madison, Joshua, Kaiden and Sage; her sisters Violet (Gordon) Hess of Ochre River, MB and their children Barry, Brenda and Darryl and their families and Irene Smith (Romeo Villeneuve) of Sudbury, ON and Irene’s children Bradley and Lorraine and their families. Linda is also survived by her in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Linda was predeceased by her parents Lena and John Boerchers and her special furry friend Fifi.
Linda was born on October 28th, 1948 in Ste Rose du Lac and grew up on the family farm northwest of Ochre River, MB. Linda was the youngest of three daughters. After completing high school in Dauphin, Linda moved to Winnipeg where she resided for 5 years. During this time she worked at Welder’s Supplies as a bookkeeper. In May of 1968 Linda married her highschool sweetheart and best friend, Bruce and in November of 1968 welcomed their first daughter, Shelley and then in November of 1969 their second daughter Shawna was born. From Winnipeg they moved to Fort Frances, ON where they lived for a couple of years and then moved to Dauphin where they have since lived. Linda worked at Johnston and Johnston Law Office (which later became Johnston and Co.) as a bookkeeper for 34 years retiring from her long career in 2008. Linda took pride in her work and was both a loyal and hard working employee. Linda was not only an employee but a friend to all she worked with. Those friendships were very special to her and many continued on into her retirement. While Linda worked at Johnston’s, she raised her family as a loving and supportive mother that instilled a good work ethic and a sense of independence and responsibility in her children. Linda was a quiet person that enjoyed her time at home but also cherished the time that she spent with her close friends and family. Linda loved to travel and her favorite time was spent on family vacations (Las Vegas, Mexico and Florida) and camping with Bruce at Bakers Narrows in Flin Flon, MB and at Sportsman’s Park in Clear Lake, MB. She will certainly be missed this summer during “happy hour” at Sportsman’s Park. Linda also enjoyed the quality time she spent spoiling, playing and visiting with her grandchildren and they will remember her smile and playful spirit forever.
Linda was a very caring, loving person and will be greatly missed. The family will cherish her spirit and hold on tightly to the many wonderful memories they have of her and her life. The family would like to thank Dr. Mathison and Dr. Bretecher and the staff in the Chemo Unit and in the Palliative Care Unit at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre for their wonderful care over the past several months.
Memorial service was held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Grace Baptist Church in Ochre River with Pastor Allen Unger officiating. Sharon Brink served as organist and Diane Marshall performed a special musical selection. The eulogy was delivered by Linda’s daughters, Shelley Hopkins and Shawna Lounsbury. Interment will follow at a later date in the Turtle River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of one’s choice.
