It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Harriet Denby (nee Sanderson) on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre after a lengthy battle with diabetes.
Harriet was born in Winnipegosis on July 8, 1928. She married John Henry Denby on March 28, 1951 and together they had seven children.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Clifford (Darlene), Joyce (Brian), Jack (Rosa), Sarah (Martin), Mary (Dave), Ralph (Yvette) and Roger; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sisters Daisy and Mae and brother Charles and her extended family, bingo buddies and friends.
Harriet was predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents Charles and Ellen Sanderson, brothers William, Ralph and Gifford and sisters Mable and Violet and grandson Greg Denby.
She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren and would spend hours with them playing a variety of games. The grandkids loved coming to Grandma’s summer resort. She looked forward to family gatherings which were always busy and boisterous and never tired of having everyone home.
When her health was good she loved to garden, pick berries, and produced many jars of preserves ready to share with family when they came home for visits. In her later years, she turned her interest to knitting and crocheting and provided slippers, mitts, toques, and blankets for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had extras on hand to donate to the different community groups.
Her favourite pastime was socializing with her friends at the New Horizons Senior Centre, which included bingo, playing cards, and puzzles. While her health was good, she looked forward to her turn to provide lunch for the Centre.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from the Knox Presbyterian Church in Winnipegosis with Dennis Howard officiating. Music was provided by the Winnipegosis Community Choir, accompanied by organist Audrey Erickson. Brian Boyechko delivered the eulogy. Interment followed in the Winnipegosis District Cemetery. Pallbearers were Derek Brightnose, Matthew Bowen-Colthurst, Dale Pascal, Dariel Denby, Jarvis Tirk and Phyllip Thorne.
Memorial donations in memory of Harriet can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of one’s choice.Print This Post
