Gordon was born June 15, 1922 in Dauphin.  He was raised in Makinak, educated at Carrick School and the Makinak High School.  He joined the Army in July of 1940, transferring to the Air Force about a year later.  That same year he married his high school sweetheart Florence Kutcher, and remained married for 63 years, until Florence’s passing in 2004.

After the war, and spending 11 months as a P.O.W., Gordon took a business course, worked at a local garage for a while, and started work at the Highways Department in 1948.  He retired in 1977.

Gordon was active in the Government Employees Association and in the local Legion, where he held various positions over many years.  He liked to fish, hunt, and spent many weekends camping at the numerous lakes around Dauphin.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Emily; his wife Florence; and his brother Sidney.

Surviving is his family, son Don and wife Lorna of Dauphin; grandson Brent and wife Nichelle of Flin Flon; grandson Barry and partner Doug of Whitby, Ontario; great grandson Grayden of Flin Flon; great grandson Jayden of Whitby; a special “daughter”, Alice Sander of Dauphin; as well as numerous other extended family members.

Memorial Service was held on Friday, August 10, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., from the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mark Tiefenbach officiating.  Organist Barbara Durston accompanied the congregation in singing “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden”.  The Royal Canadian Legion performed a Poppy Tribute.  Bugler Bruce Childs performed “The Last Post”.  Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.

Those wishing to remember Gordon may honour his memory by making donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
