It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Gary Charles Patterson at the age of 70 years young on January 27, 2012.
Gary was born in Carman, Manitoba on September 4, 1941 where he lived and received his education. Later on, he moved to Winnipegosis and worked for Esso, and then moved to Dauphin where he made his permanent residence.
Gary pursued his passion of driving truck first with Tym Ltd. then with McMunn and Yates, and retired from McMunn’s in 2006.
Gary was a very active supporter of the Dauphin Kings, and drove bus for them back in the 1980’s. He loved his dogs Del, Peppey, Cocoa and Tippy. Gary was always there when you needed a helping hand. He was a great handyman, excellent listener and a wonderful person to be around.
Gary met his soul mate Joyce in 1987 and they married on June 30, 1988. At that time, they sold the house in town where they lived and moved to the country where they started up their chinchilla farm. Gary always found something to putter away at around the farm, whether it was repairing his truck, cutting grass, blowing snow, cutting wood or just tinkering in the garage.
Gary loved to play with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews or all children around. Gary was a kid at heart and was always up for a game of hide and seek, nails, baseball or horse shoes.
Gary and Joyce held an annual corn roast September long weekend for many years. People loved coming by for great food and corn on the cob. He was always up for company at the farm and a bonfire would certainly be started shortly after your arrival. Sitting around the fire reminiscing was always great fun. Gary liked the great outdoors, fishing, camping or just going to the river for a swim.
Gary is survived by his wife Joyce of 23 years; his children Kelvin, Ron, Darren and Candace; his step-children Theresa, Doug and Harold; his grandchildren; his sister Aileen; his brother Don; numerous nieces, nephews, and many extended family members.
Memorial service was held on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel with Fabien Carriere officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
