Douglas William Carruthers

CARRUTHERS

On January 21, 2012 after a brief illness, Doug Carruthers passed away at the age of 71 years, at the Winnipegosis Hospital.

He is survived by his brother Robert Carruthers; Archie (Claire) Carruthers, brother and trustee to Doug; sister Bev (Roy) Sloboda and family, all of Dauphin; brother Barry (Margo) Carruthers and families in Australia; nephew Alan (Lucia) Carruthers and family of Winnipeg; niece Laura (Don) Chisholm and family of Lorette, Manitoba.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and May Carruthers, and a brother, Allan.

Doug was born September 17, 1940 in Dauphin, Manitoba.  He was raised on the family farm in the Banks District, Southeast of Dauphin, and attended the Banks School for a brief period.  He moved into Dauphin in 1989, to Grandview in 1991, and McCreary in 1995.  He then moved to Winnipegosis in 2007 until his passing.

The family wish to thank Dr. Marais and Staff at the Dauphin Hospital; Dr. Johnson and Staff at the Winnipegosis Hospital; and Winnipegosis and District Residential Services Inc. and Doug’s extended family there.  The family would also like to especially acknowledge Joan Arneson and extend their heartfelt gratitude for all she has done.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel with Pastor Scott Allen officiating.  Barbara Durston served as organist, accompanying Dean Durston as soloist.  Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Don Dunfield, Ken Lunsted, George Dunfield, Don Chisholm, Alan Carruthers and Dennis Tokar.  Luncheon followed at the Dauphin Multipurpose Senior Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug may be made to Winnipegosis and District Residential Services, Inc.

Arrangements were entrusted to Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services with funeral homes in Dauphin, Roblin and Ste. Rose du Lac.
