With family by her side Beverley Janice (Bonnie) (nee Chipney) Harrison passed away at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre on January 22, 2012 at the age of 61 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Left to cherish fond, fond memories are her husband Boris of 36 years, daughter Trish (Robb) Dubek, son Trent (Valerie), grandchildren Lukas and Liam Dubek all of Dauphin; her father Peter Chipney of Dauphin; one brother Allen (Judy) Chipney of Kaledan, BC; three sisters Barb (Willie) Little of Rivers, MB, Brenda (Rodney) Minshull of Brandon, MB, and Jackie (Darryll) McLeod of Rivers, MB. There are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members
Beverley was predeceased by her brother Vernon, her wonderful mother Jessie, both her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Beverley was born on April 3, 1950 in Bralone, BC to Peter and Jessie Chipney (nee Semchyshyn). In 1954 they moved back to the farm in the Rice Lake District of the R.M. of Mossey River where Bev attended the Rice Lake School then later High School in Winnipegosis.
When she finished school, Bev worked as a nurse’s aide in the Winnipegosis and Dauphin hospitals and the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg. In 1975, she married Boris Harrison, her true one and only, and they resided in Winnipeg until 1977 when they transferred to Dauphin. While living in Winnipeg Bev took a clerk typing course and obtained a receptionist job with Hadasa Council. Soon after moving to Dauphin the kids arrived and Bev’s life as a mother started. After the children reached school age, she worked as a receptionist for The Office, Words Plus More, Currie Adjusters, and Typing & Stuff. During this time Bev enjoyed spending the weekends and any other spare time in Waterhen where Bev and Boris built a cottage. Many nights Bev would sit by the fire listening to the radio and reading a book and first thing in the morning she’d wake everyone up to go fishing. She loved fishing! While living in Dauphin Bev enjoyed playing slow pitch, curling with the Rockettes and Friday Nite Mixed League. In 1992 Bev and Boris built a new home at the Dauphin Golf Course and enjoyed living there for 4 years. In 1996 they purchased Bev’s family farm where she grew up. Bev was so excited to be back on the farm – this is where Boris said she was the happiest!
Although they lived 50 kms out of Dauphin Bev continued to go to work every day. It was effortless for Bev because she worked at Uptown Pet Clinic as a receptionist. This was her favorite job. Bev loved animals and she had a way with them. When arriving home from work Bev would change her clothes and go straight out to the barnyard and check out her cows with her dog Tia Maria and cats following by her side, making sure Boris had everything under control and in order and if he didn’t she’d let him know. Often Boris would try all day to get a cow into the shelter with no success and Bev would come home from work and go out and call the cow by name and within minutes back in the house to let Boris know she put her in. Bev would rather be outside doing something than in the house, that’s why they didn’t have suppers until 9:00 or 10:00 at night.
Bev was a loving, devoted, generous wife, mother and baba, always there for her family. Family came first!
In February 2009 Bev was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her strength and determination gave us almost 3 more years. She lived her life to the fullest and fought hard all the way.
Prayers were offered on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. from the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin, followed by cremation. Funeral service was held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Oleg Bodnarski. Holly Hryhoruk served as Cantor. The Crossbearers were Robb, Lukas and Liam Dubek. The Epistle was read by Helen Rolla and Geri Harrison delivered the eulogy. Pallbearers were Robin Sime, Dennis Routhier, Kim Crandall, Darren Kippen, Kevin Beyak and Jeff Beyak. The Urnbearer was Bev’s godchild, Derek Little. Interment followed in the Rice Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Beverley may be made to the Parkland Humane Society or to the Rice Lake Cemetery c/o Trish Dubek, 131-8th Avenue SE, Dauphin MB, R7N 2E8.
