Albert Joseph Sutherland

SUTHERLAND, Albert

On Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre, Albert Sutherland passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 79 years.

Albert was born at Camperville, Manitoba on May 23, 1932 to Alexander and Emma Sutherland (nee Catcheway).  He received his education in Camperville and following that, began working as a pulp cutter and as a fisherman in the Camperville area.

Albert met Lorraine Guiboche and they were married on July 16, 1957 at Camperville.  Following their marriage, they started a family and Albert began working for the Oblate Fathers in the Residential School in Camperville as a caregiver, and then transferred to the McKay School in Dauphin in 1969 where he worked until his retirement in 1988.

Albert had a passion for music, all kinds of music.  He played at dances and was in the band “The Prairie Pals.”  He loved carpentry and enjoyed working around the house, making sure that everything was in order.  Albert was always supportive of his family, giving of his time and advice when he felt it was needed.  Remember to “live life to the fullest, and always do your best.”

Family always came first for Albert – they were his world.  He was the best grandpa.  He always made time for his children and grandchildren.

Albert was predeceased by his parents, 1 brother, 3 sisters and his son, Clayton.

He leaves to cherish fond memories his family:  his beloved wife, Lorraine; his children, Sandi (Darrell) and their children Matthew and Gregory, Barb, Valerie (Carl) and their children Christian, Samantha and Adam, Brian (Karen) and their children Keegan and Caitlin, Les and his son Jaeden.  There are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Prayers led by Barb Sutherland were offered on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. from the St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church in Dauphin.  Funeral Mass celebrated by Father David Kowalski was held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from the St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church.  Mary Kay Scinocca served as organist, accompanying the St. Viator’s Choir.  Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.  All of Albert’s family and friends were to consider themselves as Honorary Pallbearers.

The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff of St. Paul’s Home for their compassionate care during Albert’s stay there.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Albert may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Arrangements were entrusted to Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services with funeral homes in Dauphin, Roblin and Ste. Rose du Lac.
